It has been a grey and cold beginning to 2020 with many Chicagoans electing to stay inside to outlast the elements. However, as January comes to a close, Chicagoans should give their legs a stretch and set their sights on the numerous museums. Throughout the month of February; numerous Chicago museums have opened their doors with free admission days for all Illinois Residents. All that is needed is proof of residency and your curiosity. Here a few of the museums and their open admission days that are sure to help brighten any gloomy days.
Shedd Aquarium
February 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 24-28
Explore the mysteries of the underwater world and watch your favorite marine life swim around you. Shedd has numerous free days throughout February and it includes all permanent exhibits, animals, the aquatic show presentation and the Stingray Touch exhibit.
Adler PlanetariumFebruary 4-6, 11-13, 17-20
Explore the unfathomable expanse of space and all that it holds for free at the planetarium. Be it supernovas or an up-close look at a real space-faring Gemini 12 capsule; this museum is perfect for those who enjoy looking up at sky and wondering what’s out there. Free admission days grants visitors access to all the exhibits and experiences save the Atwood Sphere and Sky shows (discounted tickets are available for Illinois residents on free-admission days.
Field MuseumAll February
If you are feeling more down to Earth and want to explore the vast diversity of our planet for free; head over the Field Museum where you can explore the world of Egypt, ancient dinosaurs and amazing scientific discoveries. Every day in February is a free-admission day for Illinois residents with a valid ID. Head on over to their website to check out the newest exhibits and beat the winter blues discovering natural history.
